When you need a Qatar trademark registration
You are launching in Doha
The commercial record and the trade mark register are two different places. Only the second gives you a number to attach to a complaint.
The certificate is on a critical path
A store listing, a franchise or a customs recordal waits on a registration number. Here the wait has a fixed sixty-day stretch built into it.
Somebody else's name was published
Those same sixty days are your room to object to a name too close to yours. The same window the Gulf states share, and it does not stretch.
You have no address in Qatar
An owner with no real domicile in the country cannot lodge the application personally. It has to come through an agent domiciled there.
You hold the mark elsewhere already
Qatar has been reachable through the international register since August 2024, so an existing home registration can now be extended to it.

What is required for a Qatari trade mark
The register is kept by the intellectual property rights protection department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the application is lodged through the ministry's own electronic service. The GCC Trade Marks Law, in force here since August 2023, sets the deadlines around it, and one of those deadlines shapes the whole schedule.

Sixty days, and what they do to a plan
After the mark is examined and accepted, a publication fee is paid and the mark appears in the gazette. Any concerned person then has sixty days from that publication to oppose the registration.
Only once those days have run, with no opposition or with one dismissed, does the registration fee fall due. The mark is then published a second time and the sealed certificate is issued. Nothing shortens that stretch, so a launch that depends on a certificate is planned around it.

These are the amounts published for lodging an application and for reaching Qatar through the international register. The ministry does not publish a single figure for the later publication and registration stages, and this page does not invent one.
Ten years, and the year that matters
Protection lasts ten years, and the clock starts on the day of filing. The renewal fee falls due during the final year of the current period, and a grace period of six months follows the expiry date where the payment is late.
Filing from outside the country
Where the applicant is not domiciled in Qatar and has no real and effective domicile there, the law requires the application to be lodged through an agent domiciled in the country. The commercial record of the applicant and the image of the mark are attached to it.
- The owner named exactly as the commercial record names it.
- The mark as an image, in the form it will carry in the market.
- The classes, picked one at a time inside the electronic service.
- An agent domiciled in Qatar, where the owner is not.
Spotting a copy once you are on the register belongs to brand protection.

Stages of work
The search, before a fee is paid.
We will comb the Qatari records and the international registers for near-identical spellings, for words carrying the same meaning, and for the neighbouring classes.
Where the search comes back crowded, changing the name now is cheaper than arguing about it during a sixty-day window later.
Naming the owner and the agent.
The owner must be written exactly as the commercial record writes it. Where that owner sits outside the country, the agent arrangement goes in place first, because without one there is no channel to submit through.
Choosing the classes inside the service.
Classes are selected one by one inside the ministry's electronic service. We will settle the list against what you sell today, and against what the name should still cover in three years.
Lodging and the first payment.
We will submit the application with the mark image and the commercial record attached, and settle the published amount for it: QAR 1,000 for an individual mark, more for a group or a collective one.
Examination and the acceptance report.
The office examines the mark and issues an acceptance report. Where it queries the wording or the breadth of the goods, we will reply within the period it sets and say plainly what the reply gives away.
Publication and the sixty days.
The publication fee is paid and the mark appears in the gazette. From that date sixty days run for anyone to oppose. We will diary the end of that window and answer anything that lands inside it.
Registration, then the ten-year calendar.
With the window closed, the registration fee falls due, the mark is published a second time and the sealed certificate issues. We will put the renewal year in your calendar together with the grace period that follows it.
