When you need a Bahrain trademark registration

A commercial registration and a registered mark are different documents doing different jobs. Only the mark answers the question of who owns the name.
You budgeted the filing, not the grant
Getting on file is the cheap part here. The amount that actually buys the certificate falls due much later, and it is five times larger.
Someone can object for very little
Objecting to an accepted mark is one of the cheapest actions on the directorate's list. A crowded search result is worth taking seriously.
Your company sits outside Bahrain
A non-resident owner cannot walk the application in. It goes through a representative registered as a trademark agent with the ministry.
Your packaging carries foreign wording
Words in the mark that are not in Arabic need a certified translation filed with them. A sound mark needs a recording, a scent mark a description.

What is required for a Bahraini trade mark
Marks are handled by the industrial property directorate of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Bahrain runs on the Gulf trademark law, approved here by Law No. 6 of 2014 and amended by Law No. 3 of 2021, with agents and fees set by ministerial resolutions of their own.

Bahrain is unusual in publishing both a price and a working-day clock against every step. The national service catalogue lists them separately, which makes the shape of the spend visible before you start.

Where the money actually sits
Filing one class costs 100 dinars. Registering that same mark costs 500, and the invoice arrives only after the directorate has accepted and published it. The step that feels like the commitment is the small one; the step that looks like paperwork is where the budget goes.
Publication also opens the objection count: the Gulf trademark law has applied here since May 2016 and allows sixty days, without extension.
Renewal repeats the whole figure: 650 dinars inside the last year of protection, and 750 if it is left to the six months after the term has run out. A late renewal therefore costs more than the original filing and publication together.
What a foreign owner has to do first
An applicant who is not resident in Bahrain has to act through a legal representative registered as a trademark agent with the ministry. That appointment comes before the file, because the power of attorney behind it has to be authenticated and translated into Arabic.
- A copy of the mark measuring at least ten by ten centimetres.
- The commercial registration, or other proof of the professional activity.
- A certified certificate from the country of origin, translated into Arabic.
- A certified Arabic translation of any foreign wording inside the mark.
- For a sound mark, a written description and a recording; for a scent mark, a description.
Monitoring the market after you hold the registration is brand protection.

Stages of work
Appointing the agent of record.
A non-resident owner acts through a representative registered with the ministry. We will put that appointment in place and take the power of attorney through authentication and Arabic translation before the file is opened.
Reading the register and the bulletin.
We will search the Bahraini records for signs that resemble yours and for the classes beside the ones you need, then read the result against the goods you really put it on.
Objecting here is cheap for whoever does it, so a crowded result changes the plan rather than decorating it.
Assembling the file to the list.
The image at the stated size, the commercial registration, the certified certificate from the country of origin and the Arabic translations. Anything missing sends the file back, and the clock restarts with it.
Filing one class — BHD 100.
We will put the application in and pay the filing amount. The directorate gives itself ten working days on this step, and we will chase it if the answer slips.
Acceptance and publication — BHD 50.
Once the mark is accepted we will pay the publication amount and it goes into the official bulletin. This is where a third party gets its chance to object, at a cost of 200 dinars to them.
Registration and the certificate — BHD 500.
With publication behind it, the registration invoice is the large one. The directorate states a single working day for issuing the certificate once that amount is paid.
Two renewal windows, ten years out.
We will hold both: 650 dinars inside the last year of protection, 750 in the six months after it. Missing the first one costs 100 dinars, and missing the second costs the mark.
