Family visa
We will test the sponsor before the relatives, show what each country counts as proof of means, and put the whole household on one calendar instead of five separate ones.

When you need a family visa

Nobody travels on your permit
A relative does not ride along on the permission you hold. Each one is examined separately, papered separately and issued a card of their own at the end of it.
There is a pause in your own job
Derived permissions fall when the one underneath them falls. An interval between contracts therefore stops being your private matter and lands on the whole household at once.
Your income sits near the line
Every country tests whether the sponsor can carry the household, and no two test it the same way. What passes in one is not even the right document in another.
Somebody falls outside the circle
Family is a defined term, and the definition stops in different places. A parent, an adult son or a relative by marriage can be inside it in one country and outside in the next.
The dates have drifted apart
Four cards issued in four different months turn into four separate deadlines, each with its own late charge, all of them hanging on one permission underneath.
What you get
- The sponsor assessed first
- The right proof of means
- Who qualifies, named
- Documents attested in time
- One calendar for the household
What a family visa requires

A family visa is a derived right everywhere it exists. Nothing in it is assessed on the relative arriving: the whole examination is of the person already there, and the relative inherits whatever that examination produces. Which is why a case that looks like five applications is really one, answered five times.
Where the sponsor's own status is the thing that has to change first, that belongs with a work route; the neighbouring options are collected under Immigration & Visas, and choosing between countries at all is jurisdiction selection.
Four things every family route measures
The sponsor's own permission, and whether it is of a kind that may sponsor at all. The definition of family, which is narrower than the word suggests. Means — whether the household can be carried without public support. And the calendar, because a derived permission cannot outlive the one it derives from. Countries agree on all four headings and disagree on every detail beneath them.
Where the three countries disagree
| What is compared | Qatar | Saudi Arabia | United Arab Emirates |
|---|---|---|---|
| What the sponsor is tested on | profession and pay | the type of permit held | income |
| The published figure | QAR 10,000 a month | no figure published | AED 4,000 a month |
| Housing changes it to | QAR 7,000 | — | AED 3,000 |
| What proves it | six-month bank statement | the iqama itself | contract and salary |
Proof of means is where the paperwork diverges
The same requirement produces three entirely different documents. One country wants a bank history: six months of statements from an accredited local bank, read alongside the profession rather than instead of it. One asks for no figure at all and looks instead at which kind of residence permit the sponsor holds, closing the route to anyone living on a relative's permit. One publishes a salary line and says outright that the post a person holds has stopped deciding anything here. Preparing the wrong one of those three is the most common reason a family waits twice.
How each market reads it
Qatar
The most document-heavy of the three and the most specific: a technical or specialised occupation, a published pay condition that drops when the employer houses the family, and bank evidence behind both.
Saudi Arabia
The question is settled by one card. An invitation may be sent by a resident on a work permit, and cannot be sent by a resident living on a relative's, whatever their income.
United Arab Emirates
The only one of the three that leads with a plain salary line, and the most explicit about whom it reaches: a husband or wife, daughters who have not married, boys below the age of twenty-five, and children with special needs.
The calendar is part of the rules
Descended permissions end when the one beneath them ends, and the unwinding has an order of its own that puts the household ahead of the sponsor. What follows is not goodwill but a published interval: in the Emirates a half-year runs from the day a permit lapses or is withdrawn, within which a fresh one has to be obtained. Other countries count the lateness daily instead. Keeping one calendar for everybody is not tidiness; it is the cheapest part of the case.

Stages of work
The sponsor examined before the family.
We start from your own permission: what kind it is, how long it has left, and whether it belongs to a category that may sponsor anybody at all. Every date downstream inherits from this one.
The circle drawn against the definition.
We set down whom the published rules in your country actually reach, with each age and each marital status written out, so that no one in the family spends months on a request that the definition itself had already closed.
Means proved in the form that country wants.
A bank history, a salary certificate or simply the right kind of residence permit. Producing the wrong evidence is not a smaller mistake than producing none.
Documents attested, translated, sequenced.
A certificate of marriage or of birth drawn up in another country has to be legalised and translated by a sworn translator, and neither step is quick. Both begin before anything that waits on them.
The household put on one calendar.
Renewals, medicals, and the changes in your own status that move everybody else's dates, held in a single place with the late charges counted in advance.
Our case studies
FAQ
The sponsor, almost entirely. The relative arriving supplies identity documents and, where required, a medical, but the substantive test is of the person already resident: the kind of permit they hold, what they do, what they earn and how long their own status has left. That is why the first useful hour of a family case is spent on the sponsor's card and not on the family.
It depends on the country, and in one case there is no figure to meet at all. The Emirates publish a monthly salary line that drops where accommodation is provided. Qatar publishes its own, and lowers it where the employer houses the family. Saudi Arabia publishes no figure for this and looks instead at which kind of residence permit the sponsor holds.
A narrower group than the word suggests, and the boundary sits in a different place in each country. One lists a husband or wife, unmarried daughters, boys below twenty-five and children with special needs. Another works with the first degree of kinship: parents, a spouse, children. A member of the household outside those lines needs a different route rather than a harder application.
Every permission in the household moves with yours, because yours is what they were issued against. The unwinding runs in sequence, the family first, and what follows it is a published interval rather than an open one. In the Emirates half a year runs from the day the permit lapses or is withdrawn; letting that run out without either renewing or closing the permits exposes the sponsor to a fine.
Treat them as two procedures rather than two stages of one. A visit is answered by one authority on one set of conditions; residence is answered by another, with medicals, biometrics and charges of its own. Those who plan the first procedure alone learn of the second one late, and the interval between them runs to months. Plan both at the same time.
