Global IP Registration and Data Privacy for Recycling Tech

A global sustainable-tech company operating AI-powered recycling machines for plastic bottle collection was scaling into 34 markets. Rapid expansion exposed the brand and the underlying technology to copycat risk, while parallel growth into jurisdictions with stricter data protection rules — including the UAE, Morocco, and Qatar — meant local compliance had to move in step with commercial rollout. The client needed a coherent IP strategy across established and emerging markets, plus personal data compliance in several jurisdictions at once — before missteps in any one region could trigger infringement claims or regulatory pushback.

We built a structured IP and data-privacy rollout aligned with the client's 34-market expansion:

1. Asset mapping — classified the company's software, design documents, branding, and product features for protection under trademarks, patents, industrial designs, copyright, and computer programs.
2. Jurisdiction strategy — reviewed local and international rules to select filing routes, including markets with incentives for green tech, and ran trademark and patent clearance searches.
3. Filings and WIPO route — drafted IP assignment agreements covering software, design, and branding; registered national trademarks in the UAE, Georgia, and Kazakhstan; launched an international application via WIPO based on the UAE filings, covering 25 countries in one process.
4. Data privacy compliance — provided local law guidance on personal data in six jurisdictions: the UAE, Qatar, Morocco, India, Vietnam, and Georgia.
