DeFi Platform Licensing via RAK DAO
Client
DeFi crypto wallet company

Challenge
A DeFi crypto wallet company was preparing to launch a regulated platform and needed a jurisdiction that would accept a DeFi-native business model. The regulatory landscape for decentralized finance is fragmented: licensing categories, AML/KYC thresholds, and cost structures diverge sharply across markets, and few regulators have built a clear DeFi-specific framework. The client needed a structured comparison before committing to a jurisdiction, plus hands-on support through the application — all in a market where a wrong jurisdictional choice could lock the product out of regulated operations for months.
Solution
We ran a full jurisdictional review and took the client through licensing end-to-end:
- Regulatory mapping — analyzed DeFi frameworks across 7 jurisdictions, comparing licensing categories, AML/KYC thresholds, and cost structures side by side.
- Jurisdiction selection — identified RAK DAO as the optimal fit for the client's product architecture and operating model, with a clear rationale benchmarked against the other six options.
- Application support — prepared the licensing dossier, coordinated with the regulator, and walked the client through every stage of the review process.
- Launch readiness — aligned corporate structure, governance, and compliance posture with the conditions of the granted license, so the platform could go live without regulatory drag.
Result
The client secured one of the first DeFi licenses issued by RAK DAO and launched the platform with full regulatory clarity on a project valued at $5M.
The licensing track we built gave the client first-mover positioning in a new DeFi-friendly regime — with a regulated foundation for scaling the wallet product across jurisdictions.
